The last few days I've been prepping the game to start playtesting the base level of content. It'd be good to get some hands on it before I start on the next big feature I have planned. To get ready, I've been smoothing out the rough edges on a lot of the content so far. Firstly I looked at the fireball attack, which was just a default sphere and gave it a material and a fire trail effect. Then I added in some more sound effects and a settings menu with volume control. I found questing to be the most in need of QOL and polish. The issues I found in testing were that it was tedious to open the quest menu to check progress, and that it was difficult to tell what the rewards for questing were. I addressed the former by adding in a quest tracker to the side of the HUD allowing the player to see progress for a quest directly. The latter I fixed by requiring the player to return to the quest-giver, who can have additional dialog to inform the player what they will receive from the quest.
